About Us
Welcome to ECOpreschool, an outdoor preschool for kids aged 3-6 years old. Our lessons are nature-focused, and we use the energy cycle as a core teaching point. Situated on the property of a wildlife refuge, we provide a unique learning experience that fosters a deep connection with the environment.
Our Story
ECOpreschool is a brand new program dedicated to providing a nature-focused learning environment for young children. After 15 years teaching in Boston Public Schools, Mark Salzillo (Founder, Lead Teacher) was disappointed in the amount of time children in the early elementary grades were able to spend outdoors. It seemed that every excuse possible was used to cancel outdoor recess - just a drizzle, barely a coating of snow, weather projected below 40* - and the list goes on. Kids are meant to be outside! It also didn't help that "Mr. Zillo" was teaching intervention classes in a room with NO WINDOWS!
With 2 young children under 6 years old, Mark was spending more and more time outside with his kids. They loved going for hikes in the woods and helping in their small garden. This inspired Mark to take action and begin the journey to create a nature-focused preschool where kids spend as much time outdoors as possible!
Our program is designed to immerse students in the natural world, allowing them to explore and understand the wonders of the environment. We aim to cultivate a love for nature and sustainability from an early age. With 15 years experience in public education at the early elementary grades, Mark also understands the importance of school readiness. ECOpreschool will combine the best of the outdoor world with more traditional learning experiences to ensure students are prepared to enter Kindergarten.
